Description
This relief is composed of hundreds of volcanic pumice fragments that pack densely across the surface, creating an almost mosaic-like arrangement. The pieces range from substantial chunks spanning 4cm down to tiny fragments under half a centimeter. The distribution shows subtle clustering — areas where larger pieces dominate, interrupted by fields of smaller fragments that fill the gaps. The color palette moves from deep charcoal black in the shadowed recesses to lighter ash grey where the porous surfaces catch direct light. Light creates a complex topography of shadow and highlight as it moves across the varying fragment heights throughout the day.
